Maverick Gunworks is a family-owned business based in Burlington, N.C., founded by Ricky and Joy Barbour in June 2016. Both originally from Hurdle Mills, the Barbours built the shop on a foundation of passion, precision, and craftsmanship.

Ricky, a graduate of Piedmont Community College’s Gunsmithing Program, has been fascinated with firearms since childhood when he first began hunting. Before opening Maverick Gunworks, he spent over 30 years as a millwright while also building and racing cars — a pursuit in which he earned countless first-place finishes. Known for never approaching a project half-heartedly, Ricky applies the same dedication and skill to gunsmithing that made him a successful machinist, fabricator, welder, and mechanic.
